New Hire

Since I’m obviously having trouble staying inspired to keep blogging, I decided to recruit some help. She’s young, fresh and works for free, but her moods are unpredictable – tantrums are frequent in this workplace…so are snuggles. Seems like an even trade.

Truly Touching

I came upon this article tonight as I was perusing Facebook. I was deeply touched with this mother’s effort to show her son how special and loved he is. And I am blown away by the power of social media.

As a mother, I can’t even fathom how gut wrenching it must have been to hear her son, Colin’s answer when asked if he wanted a party to celebrate his 11th birthday. He said it was pointless because he had no friends. Colon was diagnosed with a sensory processing disorder and a disorder similar to autism which makes communication and socializing difficult for him.

As a surprise, his mother set up a Facebook page to get folks to wish her son a Happy Birthday. She originally only thought friends and family would be interested but the outpouring from around the world has been amazing. As of the time of this post the page was fast approaching 900K likes – incredible!

Can you imagine how ecstatic he’ll be when he sees how much people really do care about his birthday! People from all over the globe.

Hooray, Colin!

I don’t know this mother but I find her actions for her son truly inspiring – what a creative, thoughtful and touching idea she had to make his birthday memorable. The love of a mother for her child is such an incredible force. You rock, Colin’s mama!

Please take a moment to “like” the Happy Birthday Colin Facebook page and make this special young man’s 11th birthday one for the record books!

Happy Mail

ImageMom Mail Exchange. Have you heard of it? Are you already participating? If you haven’t, and you’re not, then you definitely want to read on.

Remember when you were a kid and getting a piece of mail with your name on it was the most exciting thing…ever? And now as an adult checking the mail isn’t so fun because it’s usually only bills, bills, junk and bills?

Well, Mom Mail Exchange guarantees you at least one day of fun mail every month — Hooray!

MME pairs up mommies with other mommies to share their favorite items with each other. You get a smattering of goodies and a new friend every month. Then the next month you get assigned a new mommy to exchange with. The only rule is that you don’t spend more than $30 (including shipping) per month, so it’s fun and affordable too! Read more about MME here.

Cool, huh? Such a genius idea. I wish it was mine.

There is still time to get paired up with a mom for November. The deadline to sign up is October 28. You’ll get your partner by November 1 and then you take it from there!

October was my first month participating and it was so fun picking out fun items for my assigned mommy partner, Julie from The Blog Dalia. It was such a joy to get to “know” her via email and open up the package of goodies she thoughtfully picked for me. LOVED it all. I’m definitely keeping in touch with her even though our October exchange is over.

All mommies in the USA and Canada are welcomed to participate. I’m so looking forward to getting partnered up again in November! Hurry up and get your name in, I mean, come on, who doesn’t need a new friend and who wouldn’t want a monthly box of surprises?

Click here to email Ursula at MME and get registered for November. Or copy her email addy here: mommailexchange@gmail.com. And don’t forget to follow MME on Instagram for reminders and giveaways!

Happy mailing!

Happy Independence Day

ImagePatriotic from the start – Jax was only a few weeks old when this picture was taken.

Fourth of July 2012 was actually my due date so had Miss Jacquelyn arrived on time the term “Independence Day” would have a whole different meaning for her…finding freedom from the womb! But she is her mama’s daughter and made a (very) delayed and dramatic arrival. Not a fourth of July baby but always a little firecracker who lights up my world.

Happy Birthday America! Wishing you all a happy, healthy and safe Independence Day.

P.S. I would love to see photos of your holiday activities. Feel free to share your pics on Yay Baby’s Facebook page. Cheers!
