My Friend Amy and Her Miracle Elixir

My friend Amy Brown is truly one of the sweetest, most kind-hearted people I know. Always ready to listen to my woes with a compassionate ear, always willing to help and offer positive words of encouragement. Everyone needs a friend like Amy.

Amy has a story to tell, an amazing one of endurance, strength and human spirit.

Years ago, Amy got really, really sick. So sick she needed a kidney transplant. The illness was inexplicable; Amy had lived a healthy lifestyle before it hit. She was active and ate right but suddenly there she was, clinging to life, in dire need of a new kidney.

Many people wait years for organs, often times they run out of time waiting – but that wasn’t the case for Amy. Her sister, saved her life with the gift of a kidney.

But after the transplant, Amy wasn’t getting better. The anti-rejection meds destroyed her immune system. She was constantly in and out of t he hospital. Then a friend made a suggestion that would change her life. She recommended XANGO juice.

XANGO are the makers and distributers of juice mangosteen, a super-fruit known for centuries to be healing and a natural immunity booster.

Amy took a shot and tried the juice regime. The improvement was slow but noticeable and within a few years she vastly improved her kidney function. She then incorporated other XANGO products into her regimen and today is feeling better than ever.

Recently I started using XANGO protein powders and I love them! It’s a clean product, free of the nasty chemicals, preservatives and heavy metals found in some other protein powders. I have been making tasty, healthy meal replacement smoothies and shakes that my entire family loves.

I can’t wait to dive deeper into the XANGO product line. In addition to the juice and protein powders they offer bath, beauty, nutritional support and loads of other beneficial products.

Cough, Cough, Sniffle

I’m sad because my daddy was sick on Christmas and my nose is runny!

I have been such a lazy blogger lately. And I seriously feel guilty about it. We’ll just chalk my lull in posting to the hectic holidays and a sick husband.

Poor guy went to urgent care on Christmas Eve – bronchitis – YUCK! Jax got pretty sniffly too, but it hasn’t escalated into much more than a runny nose. She is such a trooper! I managed to steer clear of the sickies! Hooray!

Here is a quick DIY “recipe” for natural vapor rub to soothe congestion without slathering on that petroleum based gunk. Good for babies, kids and adults alike!

DIY All-Natural Vapor Rub

1/2 Cup Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil
20 Drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
20 Drops Lavender Essential Oil
10 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil

Mix it all together in a clean glass container with a lid. Rub on the chest and breathe in deeply. Instand relief from cruddy congestion.

The eucalyptus and peppermint help clear the sinuses and the lavender has a calming effect. Plus, the coconut oil is super moisturizing and nourishing to the skin!

Dr. Fischer Baby Products Review and Giveaway ($75 value)

Image

I have always been a bit of a snob when it comes to body care items. If I am happy with results I am willing to spend a fortune on anything I slather on my body and face.

Of course, now that I am a mama the same goes for my child. I spare no expense when it comes to her body, skin and hair care. After research and many discussions with seasoned mamas, I found a brand of baby skin care that I really liked for my precious daughter, Jacquelyn.

That said, I must admit, with my high standards and Jacquelyn’s history of eczema, I was a little apprehensive to volunteer to review Dr. Fischer’s baby products through Wendy’s Bloggers.

Oh, how happy I am that I decided to take a chance. I had no reason to fret. These products are amazing and affordable too.

Image

Dr. Fischer Pharmaceuticals, a brand from Israel, is renowned worldwide for the development and manufacture of quality products relating to dermatology, ophthalmology and nutraceuticals. People around the globe know about these superior products and now we, in the USA, will know too.

I tested several products for this review and I was pleased with them all. First and foremost, none of them caused a flare-up with Jacquelyn’s eczema, a huge plus since I worked so hard to cure it.

Wiping the sleep away from Jacquelyn’s eyes. Dr. Fischer Eye-Care Wipes for Baby are pure and gentle.

The Dr. Fischer Eye-Care Wipes for Baby are wonderful individually-wrapped moist towelettes specially formulated to cleanse the eyes and lashes of babies and children. I used them every morning to wipe away my daughter’s eye crusties that accumulated overnight. This is usually a much dreaded task greeted with wails of protest but the Dr. Fischer wipes put an end to that. They are soft and gentle and totally pure and made eye crust clean-up a breeze.

Likewise for the Dr. Fischer Eye-Care Wipes for Adults. I used these twice a day; once in the morning to wipe away my own sleepies and at night to cleanse my sensitive eye area of make-up, dirt and grime.

Jacquelyn loves bath time – and by the looks of it she loves Dr. Fischer Kamil Blue Soapless Soap for Baby even more!

Dr. Fischer Kamil Blue Soapless Soap for Baby is wonderfully mild with a wonderfully light soapy scent. It’s formulated to protect baby’s sensitive skin and to gently cleanse and prevent dryness. The “soap” lathered up nicely and Jacquelyn left the bath smelling as a baby should – fresh and clean! One thing, the cap was easy for my 17-month-old toddler to open. She has amazing dexterity and can open medicine bottles so the cap on this was a no-brainer for her. I learned this when I turned my back to add more hot water to her bath and suddenly noticed an influx of bubbles – that mischievous munchkin had dumped a quarter of the bottle!

Dr. Fischer Sensitive Baby Wipes are my my favorite of the lot. I LOVE these wipes. They are extra thick and super soft for maximum baby care and comfort. Even better, I was able to get the “job” done with just a couple wipes during diaper changes. They are lightly fragrant and I found the smell to be heavenly. I think Jacquelyn did too because she toted the package around and I even caught her snuggling with them a few times. The wipes are alcohol and color-free, hypoallergenic, and tested and approved for sensitive skin. Score! Ingredients include moisturizing pro-vitamin B5 with soothing chamomile and allantoin as well as vitamins A & E for antioxidant protection against free radicals.

Just a couple pumps of Dr. Fischer EMOL Baby Bath Oil for satiny-soft skin! I’ve been using it too!

Dr. Fischer EMOL Baby Bath Oil left Jacquelyn’s skin so luxuriously smooth that I had to try it on myself in the shower. I was left with soft moisturized skin after one use. I have yet to return it to her bath caddy. For her bath I used only two pumps and the results were amazing, perfect baby-soft skin for us both! The bath oil is 100% soap-free, SLS and preservative free.

I was also sent a limited-edition Dr. Fischer Mommy Bag. This bag is roomy, sturdy and awesome. I have been using it weekly to tote our belongings for Jacquleyn’s swim lessons. It holds two towels and a change of clothes for each of us. It has several pockets which come in handy for water bottles and sippy cups. It’s quickly become one of my favorite bags.

Mary J Blige: “A Mary Christmas” Review & AUTOGRAPHED CD Giveaway

Image

It may be 85 degrees in sunny Phoenix, Arizona, but the holiday spirit is in full swing at our home thanks to “A Mary Christmas,” Mary J. Blige’s new holiday album.

As I type this post, I am feeling warm and fuzzy as it plays in the background. I hear my sweet baby girl, Jacquelyn (aka “Jax”), humming and clapping while her daddy gives her a bath. She loves music and “A Mary Christmas” doesn’t disappoint.

Blige’s voice handles the classics beautifully, richly and soulfully as she breathes modern freshness into familiar favorites. Her take on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer heightens the childish stand-by with jazzy flair. Fun and catchy, Jax bopped all around to this ditty and asked for more when it ended.

My husband, a rock-and-roll musician and Christmas-music cynic, loved The Little Drummer Boy and had me repeat it several times every time the CD played. Blige made a believer out of him!

My two favorite tracks on the CD aren’t songs I consider to be Christmas classics, but Blige’s smooth renditions bring a glowing warmth to each, making them a perfect fit for the season. My Favorite Things from the “Sound of Music” highlights Blige’s range and, dare I say, gives Julie Andrews a run for her money. When you Wish Upon A Star, a duet with the magnificent Barbra Streisand, lends a feeling of wistful nostalgia – truly inspiring and timeless.

All the tracks brilliantly showcase Blige’s vocal talents and bring the cheer of the season front and center.

Other tracks include:

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
This Christmas
The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)
Mary Did You Know
Do You Hear What I Hear, duet with Jessie J
Petit Papa Noel
The First Noel, duet with The Clark Sisters
Noche De Paz (Silent Night), duet with Marc Anthony.

I have many fond memories from my teens and early twenties grooving to Mary J. Blige, so I jumped (and maybe squealed) when offered the chance to review “A Mary Christmas.”

Now, as a mother, making memories with good music is more important to me than ever. And there’s no better time of year to create such memories than the holiday season. I hope my daughter will look back fondly at these times when Mary J. Blige crooned the soundtrack to her childhood Christmases.

“A Mary Christmas” is available at major retailers across the country. I suggest picking up a copy to start making memories today!

Abbott’s ZonePerfect Greek Yogurt Bars Review

Zone_Perfect

Abbott’s ZonePerfect’s Greek Yogurt Bars are a busy-mama-must! From swim lessons to baby gym to play dates I’m always on the go and I admit I’m guilty of skipping meals. Problem is, later on I find myself gorging. I know it’s not healthy, yet I do it anyway. I’ve always done it and now as a mama it happens all the more often.

Our recent purchase of a Vitamix blender has helped me in this area, allowing me to make a quick smoothie to substitute a meal. Trouble is, I have yet to find a protein powder I like for said smoothies. And frankly, some days it doesn’t even feel like I have time to blend some fruit together.

Enter Abbott’s ZonePerfect Greek Yogurt Bars.

One bar has 12 grams of protein and gives me the fulfillment and satisfaction as I would get polishing off a two-egg omelette, without the cracking, whipping and flipping!

ZonePerfect’s Greek Yogurt Bars come in three delicious flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla Berry and Raspberry. All flavors have a thick, rich coating of Greek Yogurt giving  them a unique, wholesome decadence. My favorite is the chocolate, satisfying and just sweet enough to taste like the naughty decadence of a candy bar. Yum! The other two flavors are pretty tasty too, but as apparent in my hips, I am a sucker for chocolate. With a ZonePerfect’s Greek Yogurt Bar in chocolate I can indulge without the guilt.

In addition to the whopping amount of protein, each ZonePerfect’s Greek Yogurt Bar has three grams of fiber. Fiber is something most folks can use more of. including me!

These bars are perfect to grab and go. I’ve got one of each flavor stashed in the diaper bag so I can combat hunger or simply have a snack when I’m out and about.

ZonePerfect offers nutrition bars in 27 different flavors but the Greek Yogurt variety variety are worth a try. You can find them in the nutrition aisle of select grocery, drug and mass merchandise stores. You can also shop for them online at AbbottStore.com.
